WATCH: Prime Minister Breaks Into Tears As He Addresses His Children After Egrant Findings

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat broke into tears as he publicly addressed his children after a magisterial inquiry dismissed reports that his wife owned a secret offshore Panama company Egrant.
“My children suffered along with my wife and I throughout this whole ordeal,” Muscat told a press conference at Castille. “I want to thank them and tell them that neither their father nor their mother is going to jail. Your father is proud to be the Prime Minister of Malta and I hope you are as proud of me as I am of you.”
As Muscat broke into tears at the podium, his Cabinet – who had gathered behind him – clapped loudly in a strong sign of support.
“I am disappointed that Michelle isn’t by my side today, but she is abroad on voluntary work,” the Prime Minister said. “People tried to destroy her, simply because they were cowards who couldn’t get at me and therefore tried to hurt my family instead. She had to go through months of accusations, inventions and hatred. We cried at night sometimes, asking ourselves what we did to make people lie about us like that. However, we then woke up determined to work harder than we had done before. We used to ask ourselves whether the truth will ever emerge and fate had it that we weren’t in the same country on the day of reckoning. Yet that day has come anyway.”
