A class of schoolgirls on an outing to Castille were given a surprise this morning, as Prime Minister Joseph Muscat turned up to give them a tour.

A brief video uploaded to Muscat’s Facebook page shows the Prime Minister leading the schoolgirls into Castille and asking them whether they know what the building is.

“This is the Auberge of Castille, which used to house the Knights from the Castille and Portugal,” he says with his hands behind his back.

Muscat then proceeds to show the kids the ambassador’s hall and the Cabinet Room, before the visit ends with an autograph-signing session.

A spokesperson for Muscat said the surprise tour was completely unplanned, but it fell neatly on International Women’s Day. A tweet by the Prime Minister in this regard drew the ire of journalist Matthew Caruana Galizia, son of the late Daphne Caruana Galizia.

“Prime Minister, a better way to celebrate the day would be to fight corruption in your government, therefore preventing the women who report on it from being blown up by the subjects of their reporting with a remotely detonated car bomb,” he said.
