Watch: Puli Suggests Grech ‘Irresponsibly’ Timed Resignation To Undermine Roberta Metsola

Former PN secretary general Clyde Puli criticised Bernard Grech’s decision to resign so close to a general election and suggested he specifically timed it to undermine Roberta Metsola.

On the Il-Każin debate show, Puli said that if Grech intended to step down as PN leader, he should have done so after the 2022 general election.

“Since he decided to stay on, he should have stayed on, rather than plunge the party into a leadership election a year before the general election.”

Puli went on to suggest that Grech resigned simply to “expose” Metsola and force her into a decision over whether to contest the PN leadership or not.

If he resigned simply to expose Roberta Metsola, I cannot imagine how such a move could help the party,” he said.

“Love her or not, but if you deal a blow to a rising star within the PN, the blow wouldn’t just be dealt to her on a personal level but to the party. And that’s not what responsibility to the PN entails.”
