Watch: Qormi Mayor Slams ‘Incompetent Clown’ Miriam Dalli In Leaked Council Meeting Footage From 2022
Energy Minister Miriam Dalli was lambasted as an “incompetent clown” by Qormi’s Labour mayor, Josef Masini Vento, during a fiery November 2022 council meeting about the Beverage Container Refund Scheme (BCRS).
The leak’s timing is particularly inconvenient for the mayor who is seeking re-election in this Saturday’s local council election.
Circulating footage shows a heated segment of the meeting where the council discussed the problematic site of a BCRS machine, which had become a notorious littering hotspot.
The BCRS has sparked controversy, forcing citizens to gather their beverage containers and dispose of them individually at designated machines, a process many find cumbersome.
It was amid this contentious debate that Mayor Masini Vento erupted, launching into a scathing tirade against the minister. “I don’t want it here; the residents are right!” he exclaimed.
Barbara, a council member, reminded the mayor that the council had suggested the location and that having the machine within the locality wasn’t optional.
“She can’t oblige me, and if she tries, I’ll personally go and throw it under her ministry’s door,” Masini Vento retorted. “With all due respect, the minister is a clown and so is Enemalta. She should resign.”
He further questioned how someone he perceived as so “incompetent” could ever aspire to become Prime Minister.
Despite the mayor’s outbursts, other councillors valiantly tried to continue the meeting. At one point, they even attempted to mute Masini Vento to restore order, but their efforts were in vain. The meeting ultimately had to be cancelled and postponed.
Lovin Malta attempted to contact Masini Vento to ask for his reaction to the being made public, including the timing however he refused, insisting he was not obliged to. He said he would be uploading his own statement later today.
