PN leader Alex Borg has clarified that he doesn’t want towers in Gozo and has called out PL politicians for trying to “spin” his statements.

“Those who don’t like the new enthusiasm within the PN invented a story that I want towers in Gozo,” Borg said. “I will be clear. Read my lips – I don’t want to see towers in Gozo.”

During a recent interview, Borg called for a national skyline policy and refused to rule out that such a policy could allow for the construction of towers in Gozo.

However, Borg has now insisted that the purpose of a skyline policy is to protect villages from developments that disregard traditional building heights.

Borg also accused the government of allowing Gozo to “fall into neglect” and invited Prime Minister Robert Abela to spend a day in Gozo.

“I urge him to ride on the Nikolaus ferry, a monument of neglect. When he arrives in Gozo, he should walk around and realise that the pledged €700 million never touched Gozitan streets.”

“He should then go to Rabat and observe the monument of incompetence which is the museum that was never completed. He should then go to the Gozo Hospital and find out whether the new hospital has been built yet.”

“He should also ask the Gozitans about the lack of basic health services, and then go to Xlendi and Marsalforn and see whether they’re prime examples of planning and whether there aren’t towers in Gozo.”

“Let’s stop the spin and find out what Gozo really needs.”
