Watch: Repubblika Activist Called Joseph Muscat ‘Mafia’ To His Face In Court

Repubblika activist Robert Aquilina called Joseph Muscat “mafia” to his face inside court when the former Prime Minister’s criminal case commenced earlier this week.

During a debate this morning on TVM’s Vi jew Va, Aquilina faced off against Jason Micallef, who was by Muscat’s side when the court case kicked off.

Micallef said that while they were waiting in court, Aquilina approached him and Muscat and got “hysterical”, telling them their hands were “stained with blood” and that Muscat is a “mafia boss”.

“He came to this debate pontificating but he himself tried to provoke an incident himself in contempt of court,” Micallef said. “Joseph Muscat and I could have reported him to the police but we decided not to.”

Aquilina confirmed the incident but denied that he intended to provoke a violent episode.

“I entered court early to ensure that there won’t be any sort of provocation. When we were in court, Joseph Muscat and I were in very close proximity to each other, along with Muscat’s entourage and police officers who were assigned to protect my friends and I.”

“I told Joseph Muscat to his face what I have been saying about him outside court, that he is mafia. It was not in contempt of court.”

Micallef said Aquilina’s actions were “extremely serious” and amounted to the “harassment” of a suspect.

“I tried to calm him down, he told me not to touch me, and I told him to take it easy. He tried to provoke people and there was some commotion inside, but we didn’t report you to the police because we’re genuine people unlike you.”
