Watch: Rescue Mission Triggered After ‘Reckless’ Boys Jump Off Coral Lagoon In Rough Sea
A Red Cross rescue mission had to be initiated after at least one male youth found himself in trouble in rough Maltese waters at a notoriously dangerous lagoon.
In footage from Coral Lagoon, situated near Mellieħa, a jet ski can be seen circling an individual in difficulty in the sea. The jet ski stays close to the person before a Red Cross rescue boat appears.
“Reckless frat boys jumped off the cliff at Coral Lagoon for ‘fun’ and to look cool on video – and they ended up needing to be rescued by authorities,” one person on scene told Lovin Malta.

The video was taken on the day Malta was being battered by Force 6 and Force 7 winds, bringing the recent heatwave to an end – but leading to warnings issued for swimmers going to certain beaches.
“Today is really not the day to be out in the rough sea… they almost drowned themselves to look cool and make videos. Kids these days!”
Coral Lagoon is a magnet for unfortunate incidents, with its picturesque look hiding the fact that swimmers need to face the open sea’s strong currents to make it back to land after jumping into the beautiful water.
Lovin Malta spoke to a survivor of one such incident who was left with injuries after he tried to rescue his roommate who found himself in difficulty after jumping into the Coral Lagoon.
