Watch: Robert Abela Accuses Bernard Grech Of Committing Crime Of Perjury
Prime Minister Robert Abela has openly accused Opposition Leader Bernard Grech of committing the crime of perjury.
Moments after the PN lost a court case it had opened to try and force the State Advocate to recover the money that had been defrauded from the Vitals-Steward hospitals deal, Abela called a press conference and aimed his guns at Grech.
“The Opposition Leader gave false testimony in court, and Justice Minister Jonathan Attard said as much when testifying under oath in the court case,” Abela said.

The Prime Minister took issue with how Grech stressed during the case that his administration (ie. from 2020 onwards) participated in crimes with Steward.
“This allegation has been excluded by the magisterial inquiry, by two court sentences, and a NAO report,” Abela said.
“The Opposition Leader clearly gave false testimony and there is no way he can shake off this serious allegation. He committed the crime of perjury. He had known what the NAO and court sentences said, the magisterial inquiry was published while the case was ongoing, and yet he kept persisting with this lie.”
While putting on a strong defence of his own administration, Abela didn’t extend the same treatment to the government run by Joseph Muscat. Vitals won the original concession in 2015 and it was transferred to Steward in 2017. Two courts have ruled that fraud was committed during three stages of the process – before the contract was signed, when it was being negotiated and when Steward took over.
