Prime Minister Robert Abela admitted that property remains unaffordable for several Maltese people, despite government initiatives to address the problem.

“I think that we need to discuss the issue of property affordability for youth on a national level,” Abela said yesterday.

“The government launched loads of initiatives to address this situation, such as the first-time buyers scheme, the UCA tax exemption, a VAT refund system, a €10,000 grant to first-time buyers, schemes to help tenants become homeowners, and equity sharing schemes.”

“Although they made a big difference, youths still tell me that despite all of this and despite their decent salaries, the value of property keeps going up.”

Do you think property is too expensive and what can be done to address the situation?
