Watch: Robert Abela Plans Social Media Restrictions For Children Aged 13 And Younger

Prime Minister Robert Abela announced plans to restrict social media use among children aged 13 and younger.
“Our children are the workers of tomorrow and we must safeguard them and ensure they are raised with strong values,” Abela said yesterday.
“This was a discussion we kick-started when we launched a social plan for families and I can announce that work on implementing this measure is at an advanced stage.”

He added that while the initial proposal involves restricting social media use for children aged 13 and younger, the government could well widen the scope.
Abela didn’t announce what these restrictions could look like.
However, his announcement comes as a European Parliament committee called for a blanket social media and AI companion ban for children aged 13 and younger.
The EP’s Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee also recommended that teens aged between 14-16 should only be allowed to access social media with parental consent.
