Prime Minister Robert Abela has proposed a new form of special leave for couples who suffer a miscarriage.

Abela said yesterday that government discussions are ongoing, spearheaded by parliamentary secretary for social dialogue Andy Ellul, to introduce this new form of leave.

“At least one local telecoms company (GO) already gives its staff four weeks of miscarriage leave, which is a strong initiative,” he said.

“The government has already started working on ensuring this special leave is introduced on a national level. It will make a difference to the quality of lives of couples in such difficult and sensitive times.”
