WATCH: Robert Abela Refuses To Clarify Whether Wearing Masks In Stores Is Required By Law
Prime Minister Robert Abela refused to clarify whether wearing masks in stores is required by law.
This comes after the operators of a Maltese confectionery store were taken to court for repeatedly failing to wear masks inside their establishment, following several warnings.
Abela has previously said that there never was a legal obligation to wear masks but advised people to wear them anyway.
However, the Health Ministry later said that it is actually against the law not to wear masks inside establishments and that the officials of the Environmental Health Directorate are still conducting inspections to ensure compliance
In response to a question posed by Lovin Malta about this matter, Abela said “That’s a question that has been made ample times and I have already answered it, so I will keep the same explanation I gave earlier.”
In spite of this, the Prime Minister refused to clarify such regulations.
“I answered it once, twice, three times, and every time one tries to say that I’m going against what Profs Charmaine Gauci said.”
