Watch: Roberta Metsola – ‘2024 Will Be Europe’s Year And Your Vote Matters’
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has delivered an optimistic message on the EU’s prospects ahead of next year’s MEP elections.
“With the European elections in June, 2024 will be a decisive year. Your vote matters and will set the direction of our cause and decide on the Europe you want to see,” she said.
Metsola insisted the EU is “stronger and more united than ever before” but said work must be done to make Europe safer, fairer, greener, and more prosperous. She also said it must be ready to “embrace neighbours” such as Ukraine, which recently started negotiations to join the EU.

“For that, Europe needs you to take part and voice what it is that you want changed. This will be Europe’s year and this must be your moment,” she said.
Metsola will contest the European Parliament elections in Malta as a Nationalist Party candidate. Although she has been widely praised for becoming the first Maltese politician to get elected to a high-ranking EU role, she has also faced substantial criticism locally for her stance on the Gaza war, which many view as being too soft on Israel.
