European Parliament President Roberta Metsola put on a bulletproof vest as she accompanied European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to the site of the Israeli music festival massacre.

A video posted by the Maltese politcian from the kibbutz of Re’im shows the ground still littered with party clothes, chairs and water bottles from the festival.

“In Re’im, where Hamas turned a festival of music into a carnage of murder. The horror is unspeakable,” she said. “I met first responders, many of whom are still here.”

“Terrorists opened fire on revellers, killing, torturing and abducting. We remember those lost and honour their memory.”

Hamas fighters killed at least 260 people who gathered in Re’im to attend a psytrance festival that was held to mark the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.

The brutal incident shocked the world and kickstarted the current war between Hamas and Israel, who have laid a complete siege on Gaza.

Questioned about the festival massacre during an interview with Lovin Malta, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Malta Fadi Hanania offered a different interpretation of events.

“Luckily, Israeli youth can have a music festival. Unfortunately on the other side of the Gaza border, they cannot have any kind of festival, they cannot have any sort of happy parties,” he said.
