People who were filmed driving into the pavement of a Siġġiewi restaurant and destroying its plant pots have owned up to the police and replaced the pots.

Marilù’s published footage of the perpetrators replacing the pots, two days after CCTV footage of them driving over them, was published.

“Following our post we found out the perpetrators owned up and admitted to the incident assuring police investigators that it was neither intentional malicious intent nor intended vandalism,” the restaurant said.

“Following our report, they instantly admitted to their fault to the police and gave their version of events. They have then get in touch with us and apologised, as advised by the police.”

“We then agreed for them to replace the pots instead of paying for them… and since we needed three vintage Maltese ħwat of the same size – as the pjazza deserves – the driver and his friends actually got the xorok and dug them themselves in their garage and replaced everything yesterday night.”

The restaurant said it chooses to believe the perpetrators “in benefit of the little hope there’s left in the world”.

“Life is about choice. The choices we make as a community, as an individual or the choices that define us. The police closed the matter as they deem fit and we are thankful. There are many good people out there.”

There is a lot to do to take care of our pjazza, pjazzez in general, and Maltese heritage and we hope this raised a bit of awareness on how nice it is to be nice and to protect even the simplest form of effort in decorating a community space, with respect to everyone around.”

On a positive note, Marilù’s expressed its gratitude to the people of Siġġiewi for the enormous support they displayed, offering their own camera footage as well as words of support and encouragement. They also thanked their family, friends, clients, and the police officers who helped solve the case.

“We wish to put this behind us and focus on looking forward with the warm, fuzzy feeling that we have all this amazing support around us and for this we are thankful. Let’s build wonderful communities that like good coffee, warm teas, great lunches and stylish dinners,” it concluded.
