Sliema Mayor John Pillow has strongly lamented the lack of action from the authorities’ side regarding the drainage issue that is plaguing the shore of Qui-Si-Sana beach.

In a video message uploaded to his social media platforms, Pillow is seen strolling alongside the affected beach, as he explains the week-long situation.

“As you can see, drainage water is coming down to the sea. The whole area is full of drainage, and the smell is absolutely foul,” Pillow said, also pointing towards a sign which instructs beach-goers not to swim.

“This problem needs to be solved,” he appealed.

“It can’t be that all of the relevant authorities point fingers at each other. The Environmental Health Directorate point fingers at the Water Services Corporation, and the other way round,” he stressed.

Pillow also confirmed that both entities did visit the area to inspect last week, with the WSC adding colour to the drainage to try to figure out its origin.

“All I’m asking from the authorities is to give us this bay back, it can’t be left like this,” he stressed.

He also pointed toward the holes in the graffiti wall where the drainage appears to be coming from, also suggesting that the holes might have been intentionally drilled.

A week ago, a drainage spill was reported and people were told to avoid the Qui-Si-Sana beach due to the health dangers currently present.

What do you make of his appeal?
