Watch: Small Party Leader Calls For End To Tax Discrepancy Between Maltese And Foreign Businesses

Ivan Grech Mintoff, leader of the small party ABBA, has called for an end to a taxation discrepancy between Maltese and foreign-owned companies.

“If an Indian, Australian or Swedish national comes here and opens a restaurant, they get to pay 5% tax,” Grech Mintoff said during a debate on Popolin this week.

“However, if a Maltese person wants to invest his own money right next to my establishment, he will have to pay 25% tax.”

Although this policy is intended to attract foreign investment and create jobs in the country, Grech Mintoff warned that it is unfair on Maltese businesses.

“Do you want to take care of the industry? We don’t need supercomputers or anything, we just need to remove this injustice and huge discrepancy between foreign and Maltese people. Maltese must come first.”

Do you agree with Ivan Grech Mintoff’s proposal?
