Għargħur vice-mayor Francesca Attard said the recent council meeting which saw Helen Gauci ousted as mayor was a “scary” experience for her.

Attard, an independent and former PN councillor, voted along with the two PL councillors to remove Gauci and appoint PL’s Mariah Meli as mayor in her stead.

“The meeting wasn’t pleasant at all,” Attard said in an interview on Ricky Caruana’s Podcast, as she admitted she feared one of the attendees was going to attack her with a chair.

“It was horrible. I was called a toilet brush and Judas, and one of the people there almost attacked me with a chair. Thank God the police were there or I would have got assaulted by a chair. It was scary.”

Attard said her issues with Gauci stemmed from concerns related to financial mismanagement and irregularities.

She said she had raised the issues with the PN three times before she resigned earlier this year but no action was taken.

Attard said that Liam Sciberras, the president of the PN’s College of Local Councillors, even expected her to take on the role of the party’s private investigator because he “asked her for an investigation book”.
