WATCH: The Exact Moment Labour Supporters Found Out About Record-Breaking Victory
Labour supporters were in full voice at the Naxxar counting hall this morning after the PL won the European Parliament elections by an estimated 45,000 votes.
Supporters chanted “Viva l-Labour”, “Joseph, Joseph” and “Our Joseph is the leader, Hallelujah” as they hugged each other and banged the perspex.
The Labour Party is expected to have won 55% of the vote, compared with the PN’s 37%, the biggest majority in Malta’s electoral history. The result is expected to see the PL win its fourth seat at the European Parliament at the expense of the PN.
Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said he was speechless at the result, which he said shows the country had rejected the fear mongering and negativity of the Nationalist Party.
