Maltese ultra-endurance athlete and environmental hero Neil Agius has opened up about having to call off his 100-mile swim after swimming into an “aquarium of jellyfish”.

In pitch darkness, Neil had to dodge and swim through the patch as he suffered at least 60 stings

“There were stings on stings on stings. I was just trying to move jellyfish out of the way and find a patch without jellyfish… It got to the point that I just couldn’t feel my arms and legs.”

Neil warned that environmental damage is one of the reasons such a jellyfish bloom appeared.

“This was meant to happen for me to keep pushing my message, now more than ever.”
