Thousands of cyclists and motorists hit the Żabbar road to follow an image of Our Lady of Graces (Madonna tal-Grazzja) in a traditional pilgrimage that hadn’t occurred in years.
Pilgrims from all over Malta headed to the Żabbar parish on Sunday afternoon, with motorists leaving from Mosta and cyclists leaving from near Mdina in a show of devotion.

This unique pilgrimage originally started back in 1951 as part of a coronation celebration in the parish – and believers often ride on bikes during the celebration in reference to the belief that Our Lady of Graces protects riders.
Ahead of the event, priests addressed the gathered crowd in a festive atmosphere as individuals, pairs as well as entire groups and families spent the afternoon riding through the southern town.
Many were just happy to be back celebrating one of their favourite pilgrimages after the COVID-19 pandemic.
After a group prayer and the blessing of the priest, Archbishop Evan Caruana thanked the gathered crowd for showing their devotion and taking part in the parish’s celebration.
