WATCH: Trans Man Blasts Joseph Muscat: ‘You Won’t Use Us As A Slogan Anymore, Cut The Bullshit’

A trans activist has hit out at Prime Minister Joseph Muscat for toasting LGBT+ rights that Malta obtained on his watch, accusing him of using his community to cover up his own complicity in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

“No longer will you use us as a slogan or a catchphrase, no longer will you use us to look good among foreigners, no longer will you use us to cover up your filth and corruption,” Christian Pace said at a protest in Valletta this evening to demand justice for Caruana Galizia.

“If you think you’re going to use us to cover up a murder, then you’re sorely mistaken. No more theatrics in front of cameras, you are no longer our Prime Minster. Cut the bullshit, enough is enough.”

Pace said he voted for the Labour Party back in 2013 because of its promise to introduce new LGBT+ rights, including to trans people. However, he said he felt angry, betrayed and manipulated when he heard Muscat refer to these rights in his resignation speech to the nation last Sunday.

“In the midst of one of the greatest crises this country has ever faced, the Prime Minister tried to cover up his behaviour by boasting about LGBT rights,” he said.

“We aren’t a catchphrase, we are citizens with the same dignity and ability to reason as everyone else. I feel disgusted at how civil rights keep getting rolled out whenever the shadow of corruption is cast over Castille.”

“Prime Minister, if you truly believe in equality, then please understand that you didn’t do us a favour when you gave us civil rights, but you did your duty.”

“It was also your duty to fulfil your democratic role and you have now shown us that you cannot be trusted with this responsibility any longer. That’s why you should have already resigned, because the longer you stay there, the more damage you’ll inflict on our country. Get out!”

“Just because I form part of the LGBT community doesn’t mean I am pleased with civil liberties while you were planning an assassination from Castille. Just as all Maltese citizens, we [the LGBT community] expect the government to guarantee us peace of mind, a safe and secure environment, and the right to express ourselves without excessive interfere, intimidation or violence.”

“How can we have our minds at rest when we know that you are abusing the position we trusted you with to defend murderers? There are still people in Castille who were allegedly part of the plan to commit the worst political crime in Malta’s history. You and your friends were trusted to protect Maltese citizens but, by carrying out this macabre act against one us, you carried it out against all of us.”

“You didn’t only conspire against Daphne but against each and every one of us, against all genuine Labourites. You gave us civil rights and took away our right to life.”
