It’s Valentine’s Day – and what better way to celebrate the most romantic day in of the year than thinking you might have been fined… only to find out that it’s just a well-meaning prank by Malta’s road authorities.

Transport Malta officials took to the streets of Sliema to hand out fines to unsuspecting drivers – except, they weren’t giving out normal fines, but very special messages.

In a video produced by Transport Malta and the Transport Ministry, you can watch drivers go from angry to relieved in a matter of seconds as officials let them in on the prank… but not before giving them a few seconds of confusion.

Drivers returned to their cars to find a special fine waiting for them.

‘It’s better not to answer now rather than never answer! Show your love and don’t use your mobile while driving – Happy Valentine’s Day!” the note read.

The prank was a timely reminder of the importance of keeping your eyes on the road when driving, and not letting yourself get distracted by your mobile, endangering your life and potentially of your loved ones.

While it ended in smiles all around, we’re just happy we didn’t find a fine on our vehicle… real or not.
