ADPD leader Sandra Gauci has cast serious doubt on the viability of two new political parties that are set to launch later this month.

In an interview with Lovin Malta’s Tim Diacono, Gauci expressed skepticism about both Momentum, which is set to be spearheaded by Arnold Cassola, and Il-Progressivi, which will include Cyrus Engerer and Silvan Agius.

“To form a party, you need to have people, you need to keep them with you until the election, you must keep them motivated and they must be people who are ready to work and compromise,” she said.

“So far, all we know is that there are two people with Momentum and two in Il-Progressivi and that’s it. Two people don’t make a party.”

“My door will always be open but we must see how things evolve because everyone wakes up one fine day and decides to set up a party, but as we have seen with stories like Volt, they end up fizzling out, while we remained here.”

Gauci warned that running a party is logistically challenging, as one must deal with a lack of resources and finances and the unpredictable nature of volunteer activists.

“They could promise you something one day, but then something will crop up and they end up leaving,” she said.

“When things are clearer, we can speak better but yes, I am still skeptical.”
