Watch: War With Russia? Clint Azzopardi Flores Blasts Top EU Politician’s Nuclear Weapon Call
Labour MEP candidate Clint Azzopardi Flores has come out strongly against a recent call by a top EU politician for Europe to build a nuclear umbrella to act as a deterrent against Russia.
Manfred Weber, the leader of the European People’s Party (EPP), recently said the EU must be prepared to face the threat of Russia alone if Donald Trump is re-elected as US President, including by building nuclear deterrence.
However, Azzopardi Flores warned that Weber’s statement flies in the face of the EU’s history as a promoter of peace and nuclear disarmament.
“The EU has encouraged countries to sign and ratify the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty but all of a sudden, we are now hearing that they want to produce nuclear weapons to act as a deterrent against Russia, which doesn’t make sense.”
Moreover, he warned that this will make the EU lose credibility in its JCPOA action plan to ensure that Iran’s nuclear programme is exclusively peaceful.
“The JCPOA is intended to give the EU visibility on what Iran is doing in terms of water enrichment and uranium, but do you think Iran will take the EU seriously when it is now telling countries to start producing nuclear weapons to act as a deterrent against Russia? It doesn’t make sense.”
“Before I left the EU, it was all about diplomacy, the NPT Treaty, and nuclear disarmament. What happened all of a sudden? Does this mean we are planning to go to war?”
He said he is very concerned by this mentality shift within the echelons of power as it indicates a growing narrative that the EU wants to go to war with Russia, which could have disastrous consequences for the continent.
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev recently warned Europe of serious consequences if it decides to go to war with Russia.
Sunak, Scholz, Macron, Norwegen, Finnish, Polish, and other NATO bosses are harping on, “We must be ready for war against Russia.”
Even though Russia has many times underscored that conflict with NATO and EU member states was not in the plans, the dangerous babbling is still…

“If – God forbid! – such a war breaks out, it won’t go according to the Special Military Operation scenario. It won’t be fought in trenches using artillery, armoured vehicles, drones and EW,” he said.
“NATO is a huge military bloc, the total population of the Alliance member states is about 1 billion people, and their combined military budget can get as high as $1,5 trillion.”
“So, because our military capabilities are thus incomparable, we will simply be left with no choice. The response will be asymmetrical. To defend our country’s territorial integrity, ballistic and cruise missiles carrying special warheads will be put to use.”
“It is based on our military doctrine documents and is well known to all. And this is exactly that very Apocalypse. The end to everything.”
“This is why Western politicians must be telling the bitter truth to their voters, and stop taking them for brainless morons; to explain to them, what will really happen, and not to play the false mantra of getting ready for war against Russia over and over again.”

Do you think the EU should tone down its rhetoric against Russia?
