Watch: We All Know Labour Will Win, Joseph Muscat Says In Speech ‘Thanking’ Jason Azzopardi

Former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said Malta’s political landscape has changed so much that no one doubts whether Labour will win the upcoming election or not.

“In the past, the question before an election was which party would win. Now, the question has become by how much Labour will win. It isn’t a question of whether the PL will win or not,” Muscat told supporters last night at a rally in Gżira organised by PL MEP Alex Agius Saliba.

Warning that Labour’s big problem is that it risks falling into a sense of complacency, Muscat coyly said that this “virus” has started infiltrating the minds of certain people within the party.

“Complacency breeds arrogance and some of us, perhaps because they never spent time in the Opposition, think they have a divine right to government. No one has a right to government, even with a majority of 100,000 votes. Government is trust that the people lend to you and you must work to maintain it everyday.”

“I urge those people in government who are starting to look at other people like flies to remember where we started out from. If they weren’t there themselves, then I urge them to never forget  where we started out from – I was with you in Opposition and I’m proud to have spent those years with you, and we must ensure that this illness of arrogance doesn’t infiltrate us.”

Muscat mockingly thanked Repubblika lawyer Jason Azzopardi for galvanising several PL supporters at a time when many of them were considering abstaining from the upcoming MEP and local council elections.

“During a period when many Labourites were having second thoughts, they gave us a massive injection of energy,” he said, referring to the Vitals magisterial inquiry, which he described as a “castle of sand”.

Once again reiterating his conviction that he will be cleared of all charges in his upcoming court case for corruption, bribery and money laundering, Muscat said that a number of people close to the PN have already started distancing themselves from the inquiry.

“Up until a few weeks ago, you would see certain people strutting through Strada Rjali like peacocks and talking about what’s coming up. Now they’ve started backtracking and turning around corners because they realise that a boomerang is coming their way.”
