Watch: ‘We Can Achieve Peace In The Middle East’ – Roberta Metsola Meets With King Of Jordan

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has met with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Brussels.

“It is only through international cooperation that we can achieve lasting peace in the Middle East,” Metsola wrote in an Instagram story earlier today sharing moments from the meeting between the two.

“At this inflection point, Jordan and Europe have a major role in promoting dialogue, security, and stability in the Middle East.”

This meeting comes amid a stressful period for political and world leaders with the violent escalation of the Palestine-Israel conflict.

This period requires mediation, peace talks, and negotiations between key global and regional stakeholders, including the EU and Middle Eastern states such as Jordan in order to attempt to navigate some sort of diplomatic outcome.

Since the start of the escalation exactly a month ago, thousands have died while Gaza has been subject to ongoing destructive Israeli airstrikes in retaliation to the October 7th Hamas attack.

King Abdullah has called for a ceasefire, stressing that everybody is paying the price for the lack of political solution.

Metsola has garnered local criticism for her public stance on the issue, with Prime Minister Robert Abela calling her out for taking an “imbalanced approach” while notably forgetting to include Foreign Minister Ian Borg – who shares the same opinion as Metsola – in his critical rant.
