Nationalist MEP candidate Miriana Calleja Testaferrata De Noto said the PN doesn’t need to approach the upcoming MEP and local council elections with the mindset that it needs to win.

In a Lovin Malta debate with PL candidate Marija Sara Vella Gafa, Calleja Testaferrata De Noto was asked whether she would consider a narrowing of the gap to 20,000 votes a successful result for PN.

“When you look at the past of both parties, I think there were major improvements, even within the PN itself,” she responded.

“With regards an election, particularly after the results we witnessed in recent years, I don’t think you need to approach the MEP election with a mindset that we need to win the majority of votes.”

“Ultimately, we are speaking to the electorate, we are seeing how things can change and we are doing what we can.”

She later said that the PN’s goal should be to elect a third MEP.

“So does this mean that you are fine with losing this election?” Vella Gafa questioned.

“And will Bernard Grech remain in charge if that happens? He is saying that he wants to reduce the majority, which means he is practically saying that he is ready to not win the election. Should things remain like this? Don’t we want an Opposition that offers a service to the people out there?”

Calleja Testaferrata De Noto responded cryptically by saying the Opposition managed to implement tangible changes and uncover certain crucial information, but that there is a “lot more that still needs to be done”.
