Watch: ‘When Will Action Be Taken?’ Gozo Shadow Minister Urges For More Resources For Police

Gozo Shadow Minister Alex Borg is calling for the state to allocate more resources to the sister island’s police.

Footage sent to and posted by Borg shows commotion in Marsalforn, and while the scene is somewhat unclear, it prompted Borg to call for more resources for the police force in Gozo.

“Can we keep going like this? When will concrete action be taken?” Borg wrote on Instagram.

Through his caption, Borg implied that Gozo, particularly Marsalforn, has changed.

“It [Marsalforn] used to be a place for families however, scenes like this have become normal. It’s not surprising that people think twice about whether or not to go down to Marsalforn.”

“Police do their best to maintain order and are abandoned to face and control scenes like this often,” he said.

He went on to empathise with businesses that he claims “fear will be targeted next, that after all the thought and sacrifice that went into building their shop, they’ll find someone who will destroy their lives and reputation.”

“Can we keep going like this? When will concrete action be taken? We need to give proper and adequate resources to the police.”

To conclude his call to action, he urged stakeholders, local councils, business owners, police, and government and opposition representatives to work together so that “we don’t continue going down this road”.
