Watch: ‘You Should Be Ashamed’ – PN MP Ryan Callus Calls Out Delay In Recognising Palestine As A State

PN MP Ryan Callus said the government should be “ashamed of itself” for its delay in recognising the state of Palestine.
“How can we only speak out against Hamas’ killing of babies and children on 7th October and against Russia’s slaughter of Ukrainian children?” Callus said in Parliament yesterday.
“How can we condemn what happened to Jean Paul Sofia but then remain silent in the face of this pointless killing in Gaza?”
“These are double standards, and the government should be ashamed of itself for dragging its feet on the recognition of Palestine as a state.”
Prime Minister Robert Abela has been saying for over a year that Malta intends to recognise the statehood of Palestine “when the circumstances are right” and last week hinted there could be a major development during a UN conference on 20th June.
However, Callus insisted that the matter be treated with extreme urgency.
“What is stopping the government from immediately recognising Palestine as a state? Why the delay?” he questioned.
“Both sides of the House have practically always agreed on the need for a two-state situation there so I cannot understand the reasoning behind the delay in this critical moment.”
