Alex Borg has backed calls by emergency doctors for random roadside police testing for drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

“If I am entrusted with the position of PN leader, I will prioritise this issue and push for the necessary legislative changes,” Borg pledged.

“I will empower the police to carry out random tests on drivers without the need for suspicion, and I will push for the immediate suspension of driving licenses for those caught driving under the influence.”

“I want to adopt a zero tolerance policy for drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Too many lives are being lost on our roads, and responsible drivers and pedestrians are facing too much tension.”

“People expect responsibility from their politicians. We have a problem on our roads and we need to act.”

Similar calls for random roadside testing have also recently been made by Jason Micallef, Magistrate Joe Mifsud, Insurance Association Malta, and the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association.
