‘We Still Have So Much To Learn From Children’: Rebecca Buttigieg Responds To Valletta Dance Backlash

Equality Parliamentary Secretary Rebecca Buttigieg has spoken out after a dance event in the run up to EuroPride 2023 has received backlash online over the involvement of children.
“I only heard words of love during the event in Valletta. I enjoyed seeing families come together for a sweet dance, in a celebration of unity with a message of equality,” she said.
“We still have so much to learn from the younger generations that want a world without prejudice and with a lot of respect.”
The event, Dancing With Pride, held last Saturday, offered participants a chance to win exclusive VIP tickets to the upcoming Christina Aguilera concert in September amid a colourful atmosphere in front of Parliament.
The event saw everything from vibrant dance breaks to empowering speeches – but some people focused on the fact that children were involved in the dances.
“Leave kids out of it. When the time comes they can join in, but let them be kids,” said one person.

In the wake of the backlash, several prominent members of Malta’s LGBTIQ community took to social media to call out the hypocrisy being spouted by some online.
