‘We Told You So’: Doctors’ Union Appeals For Millions Poured Into Vitals-Steward Deal To Be Recovered

The Medical Association of Malta (MAM) has called upon the government to take immediate legal action towards retrieving the hundreds of millions funneled towards the Vitals-Steward contract.

This comes after PN MP Adrian Delia’s landmark win of his case against Vitals-Steward, where the Court ordered the annulment of the contract after a five-year saga.

Starting off its statement with “we told you so,” the MAM noted the decision “with satisfaction” after “the government was released from any further contractual obligation to continue pouring money into this senseless bottomless pit”.

“MAM has from inception opposed such a ‘so-called’ public-private partnership which was a complete sell-out of the rights of Maltese patients to an unknown company called vitals Global Health Care which turned out only to be a scam by a handful of individuals,” it reiterated.

“This has resulted in the pouring of over 500 million euros with not even one foundation stone of a hospital being laid down.”

MAM continued by referring to the industrial action that had been ordered so that doctors remained under the employment and authority of the government of Malta without any contractual relationship with either Vitals or Steward.

MAM had repeatedly emphasised with Konrad Mizzi, and Joseph Muscat that it was not in the national interest to enter into such a deal, especially when the opportunity arose to not transfer the deal to Steward.

MAM is now appealing to the government to use all the legal means to recover the lost hundreds of millions from those concerned and who failed to deliver.

“MAM expects the government of Malta to decisively and clearly show that it is on the side of the Maltese patient and not on the side of fraudulent sharks, without fear or favour of those involved in this colossal debacle,” it concluded.
