A Carnival Shipwreck? It Looks Like Rain And Strong Winds Might Hit Malta This Weekend
OK, so let’s start with the bad news. Yes, the islands might get hit with rain and strong winds over this weekend, a weekend which many have been looking forward to as it marks the annual Carnival celebrations. But believe it or not, there’s kind of a silver lining.
First of all, it’s not the whole weekend that’s looking gloomy. In fact, it’s actually the last part. So if you’re planning on getting some partying or celebrations going tonight, tomorrow or Saturday afternoon, you should be fine. After that… well, we’d recommend you regularly check for weather updates.
With highs of 20°C, Friday will kick the weekend off in sunny style, and judging by the fact that we are after all in February, it’s going to feel much warmer than usual.

By Saturday, however, the southerly winds are set to pick up quite considerably, with Force 6 gusts set to blow the temperature all the way down to 13°C as rain potentially arrives after 10pm. As far as some forecasters go, such as Facebook page Aġġornament tat-Temp, that’s just the tip of the gusty iceberg, with even Force 8 being expected at night! And considering this will coincide with the public holiday marking the Biblical shipwreck which brought St Paul to Malta, it perhaps won’t come as too much of a surprise to many people out there.
Sunday isn’t looking much better either, with the official Malta Airport forecast predicting the wind will be accompanied by thundery showers which will eventually nudge the lowest temperature down to 11°C (so maybe rethink that particularly revealing costume on Sunday night?).
