As Italy Braces For A Medicane, Malta’s Civil Protection Issues Warning Of Thunderstorms Over The Islands
As bad weather continues to steadily make its way to the Maltese archipelago, the Civil Protection has taken to Facebook to issue a warning to all drivers.
“Thunderstorms are expected to affect Malta and Gozo within the next 13 hours,” the Facebook post reads. “People are urged to drive with caution.”
This comes following weather forecasts of a Meditteranean hurricane (or medicane) which was meant to hit eastern Sardinia overnight potentially moving further south towards our islands, resulting in heavy rain, thunder and very strong winds over the next three days.
Unless it is absolutely necessary, it might be best to avoid particularly exposed parts of Malta in the coming days. Stay safe people!
In its latest detailed update, local forecasting page Maltese Islands Weather explained that, while the incoming meteorological conditions are actually “not at all unusual or too severe”, they too would still be issuing a warning, particularly for heavy rain and possibly even hail.
“The chance of heavy rain and/or rain is likely to come in two main episodes,” the page said, putting tomorrow (Thursday) morning as one of them. The other episode is currently penned for just before dawn on Friday morning, with the situation improving substantially by Saturday. A strong wind warning is also in effect until Friday.
