The Emergency Response Rescue Corps (ERRC) warn of rough seas and high waves  hitting the Maltese islands making swimming dangerous in most of Malta and Gozo.

“Reports suggest waves could reach up to two meters this afternoon, making sea conditions highly dangerous. These powerful waves and strong currents pose a serious risk, even for strong swimmers,” wrote the ERRC.

The ERRC went on to advise those who want to go to the beach to stay out of the water, to keep children away from the shoreline, to obey all red flags and safety signs, and to follow lifeguard instructions at all times.

There are still some beaches that are reported to be safe, that are still to be enjoyed with caution.

In Malta, it is safe to swim in Mellieħa, Mistra Bay, St. Paul’s Bay, Rinella Bay, Marsaskala, St Thomas Bay, Ħofriet, Marsaxlokk, Pretty Bay and St George’s Bay.

In Gozo, the safer beaches would be Ħondoq ir-Rummien, Mġarr ix-Xini and Xlendi.

Stay safe everyone!
