Streets became running rivers as manholes floated away and trees toppled under a strong early morning deluge this morning.
In photos uploaded by the mayor of Valletta, Alfred Zammit showed how members of the Civil Protection Department had to be called in to remove a tree that had fallen early in the morning.
But it wasn’t just Valletta – roads around the island became practically unpassable unless you had a boat of course.
And many were caught unprepared as they headed out on their work or school day.
There were reports of manholes becoming uncovered everywhere from Santa Venera to Qormi.
But at least some schoolchildren kept a sense of humour amidst all the swearing.
