It’s Coming: Heat Dome To Hit Malta With Over 40 Degrees And Extreme UV Index Next Week
Brace yourselves: an intense heatwave is heading Malta’s way, and it’s set to bring temperatures that feel hotter than 40°C in just a couple of days.
As temperatures continue to climb, this weekend will see days exceed the mid-30s, gradually hitting hotter and hotter highs by the time Monday rolls on.
By Tuesday, the apparent high is set to be as hot as 41°C, pushing the UV Index even further into the dangerous.
In fact, the second half of next week is currently predicted to have consecutive days of UV 12.
For some context, the moment the index hits 11, it stops counting and is just considered as “Extreme”, with experts all over the world strongly advising against being outdoors between the peak sunshine hours of the late morning and early afternoon.
Beyond warnings of avoiding the sun at these times, other local forecasting pages have told their followers to be careful of activities such as BBQs next to fields due to the increased dangers of large-scale and difficult-to-contain fires which could ignite and spread amidst the incoming heat dome blanketing the central Mediterranean.
