Less Than 100 Hours Into June, Malta’s About To Get Hit By Summer’s First Brutal Heatwave

Well… shit. It seems like Summer 2018 is off to an early, boiling start. Last weekend saw the first three days of June hit temperatures of 30°C, but this week’s forecast has even higher digits in store for us. So if you thought the last couple of days were bad, we’ve got some news you might not want to hear.
This week (which actually marks the first full week of June) will see temperatures of 30°C which, in between the long spells of sun, the high UV index, and the calmer easterly winds, feel like more. In fact, for most of the week, it’s going to feel like 34°C. Yes, already.
And that’s just the start of it. The next seven days all have an insane UV Index of 10 across the board, which means it’s high time you top up on that sunblock munition. And with temperatures and UV indexes like that, you best believe it’s going to be sunny for pretty much every single moment this week (save for a cloudy spell on Monday).
Even the evenings will only see temperatures around the island drop to a minimum of 21°C. You know; higher than the sunniest afternoons in Europe right now.
If this is a sign of things to come when summer officially starts in just over two weeks’ time, then it’s safe to presume that we’ve got our hands on another record-breaking, sweat-inducing, AC-cranking summer ahead of us.
The weekend, as you might’ve feared (but expected) has more of the same in store for the Maltese islands.
Even more sun will see Friday’s apparent temperature nudge up to 35°C. At that point, we’re talking 40°C to the nearest ten degrees guys. And, again; this is the first week of June we’re talking about.
Lows during the weekend will also shift up just enough to make you want to consider leaving the AC on while you sleep, sitting on a balmy 22°C.
The wind will be moderate for most of the week, mostly gravitating between Forces 2 and 4 and regularly shifting between easterly and northerly winds (which at least is a consolation for anyone who knows all too well what riħ isfel means). However, a shift from east to west will see the wind get a little stronger over the end of the week, with Thursday and Friday currently showing the potential to go all the way up to Force 6 winds. Let’s hope that won’t feel like someone put a fan in front of a heater, but with temperatures like those, it just might be the case.
So there you have it ladies and gentlemen; summer hasn’t even properly started yet, but Malta’s already bringing the heat.
Remember to break out the sunblock, avoid staying outside too much between the ungodly hours of 11am and 3pm, and if you’re not a fan of the heat, hang in there; it’s only 204 days until Christmas.
