‘At Risk Of Witnessing Severe Weather Conditions’: Malta To Potentially Be Hit By Medicane

Malta and the rest of the Mediterranean basin are at risk of witnessing severe weather conditions due to how hot the Mediterranean temperatures have been.
This year, temperatures already well exceeded 30°C and more throughout the month of July, with a marine heatwave even hitting the Mediterranean sea.
Due to the high temperatures, a medicane or Mediterranean Hurricane might form as the cooler air brought about a low pressure system that interacts with the much warmer waters.
This in turn feeds off the energy from the sea, producing hurricane-like structures and heavy rain and strong winds.
“The amount of stormy weather currently over Sicily can be seen scattered in several areas with an amount of rain and snow,” Aġġornament tat-Temp wrote.
“The indication is that the storm will not hit Malta but we must be careful of any clouds that may be created. This storm was caused by an unstable low pressure and a lack of wind at the height of the atmosphere.”
Throughout this week, there are days where a chance of rain is being predicted, however, the storm might not end up touching Malta.
The Malta International Airport’s weather forecast suggests that rain is about to hit the island over the next few days, hitting a peak on Thursday. Meanwhile, international forecasts have said that thunderstorms could even hit the island with the wind picking up over the weekend.
