Multiple Double Red Flags Issued Amidst ‘Extremely Dangerous’ Conditions At Beaches Across Malta
A number of Double Red Flags – the maximum level of warning for beachgoers’ safety – has been issued by the Malta Red Cross, affecting popular locations on both coasts of the island.
“We are experiencing high winds along various beaches on the coast of Malta,” a self-described “important notice” from the MRC last night read. “These conditions can be extremely dangerous for swimmers and beachgoers.”
From Għajn Tuffieħa and Buġibba to Żurrieq and Balluta, the list of affected beaches ranged in their hazard levels, from Yellow (medium hazard) to Red (high hazard). However, four different beaches were allocated a Double Red Flag, signifying they were “closed for swimming”.
These beaches are Golden Bay, Għajn Tuffieħa, Perched Beach and Fond Għadir. Meanwhile, Ġnejna and Balluta had Red Flags, with a number of others across the islands also having Yellow ones.
“Your cooperation is crucial in helping us ensure everyone’s safety,” the Malta Red Cross wrote. “Let’s work together to prevent any accidents and keep our beaches safe.”
