PHOTOS: This Morning’s Heavy Rainfall Floods The Streets Of Malta

This week saw some of the first bouts of heavy rainfall in Malta for this autumn, with things escalating over this morning.
Here are some of the photos from around the island which really highlight how much rainfall the islands got at once.
It all started on Monday with thundery showers and precipitation percentages peaking at 90%
No matter how much rain fell over Monday and Tuesday, a bigger one was always just on the horizon
By Wednesday, as expected, most of the worst places hit were the Gżira / Msida areas
Some localities like Xewkija in Gozo reported over 30mm of rainfall over the last 24 hours

But in Mellieħa’s main road (Triq Borg Olivier), the tarmac literally peeled off

By around 10am, the islands were caught in the middle of a thunderstorm and visibility on the roads instantly got very bad

Photo by Ruth DeBono, who commented, “And still some think it is wise not to use fog lamps or dimmers!”
In Sliema, the waves raged on
Meanwhile, the thunderstorm looked spectacular from the Malta Airport runway
Although some suffered the negative effects by having their flights delayed and diverted.
