Red Warning Issued As Malta’s Temperatures Soar To 40 Degrees

Malta’s Meteorological Office has issued a red warning as temperatures could hit 40 degrees today.
According to the latest weather report, the temperature outside will feel like a scorching 42 degrees. This is part of the current European heatwave Cerberus, the first – and possibly the last – intense heatwave of Malta’s summer.
Countries across the Mediterranean are in the midst of a record-breaking heatwave, with countries like Greece and Italy reaching over mid-40 Celsius this week.
A UV index of 12 also means there’s an extreme risk of unprotected sun exposure, which can burn skin and eyes in minutes.
Avoid the effects of the heat wave by:
- Avoiding the heat by avoiding any unnecessary exposure to the sun during hot periods of the day between 11.00am to 4.00pm;
- Keeping cool by staying in the coolest parts of the home and workplace;
- Closing the curtains in rooms which are sun-facing to keep the interior spaces cooler;
- Drinking water regularly
- Avoiding liquids that cause dehydration, like as alcohol and coffee
- Wearing light fitting clothes;
- Never leave anyone in closed and parked vehicle, especially babies, small children or animals;
- Walking in the shade, apply sunscreen and wear a hat if you need to go out in the heat
