Summer Officially Starts This Week, But The Weather In Malta Is Confused AF

Maltese summers are very intense. Last year, we had entire stretches of temperatures that exceeded 40°C, reaching unprecedented levels of heat that felt like you could literally fry eggs out on the street. With summer officially kicking off this Thursday, however, the weather in Malta this week is one very mixed bag.
Monday is kicking off summery enough with a sunny day that will soon feel like 30°C. The characteristically moderate winds are back for another round of northwesterly Force 4 and 5, meaning we will have some fresh bouts over the rest of the day. It’s the rest of the week’s forecast that’s proving to be rather unpredictable, though.
Both Tuesday and Wednesday are showing signs of rain showers; yes, rain showers on the eve of the first day of summer. Interestingly enough, though, the temperature will still be going up, reaching highs of 29°C. With the wind toning down to Forces 2 and 3, however, that will feel more like 33°C (eesh).
Thursday has more of the same heat in store, albeit with less chance of rain.
So what about the first weekend of summer?
Well, Friday is set to bring some sun back out for another hot day that just about breaches the 30°C mark, and the weather should be back to its summery, sunny norm by Saturday and Sunday. The (still westerly) winds might go back up to Forces 3 and 4, but it’ll be a welcomed return considering the weekend is set to feel like 32°C and 33°C all throughout.
This entire week will see temperatures dropping to 20°C in the evening, which means it might be a good idea to pack a thin hoodie if you’re heading to the beach at night.
With a UV index of 9 across the board for all the next seven days, however, this week is another good time to stock up on sunblock as summer officially starts.
