Fresh temperatures and dark clouds might’ve greeted you to the new week this morning, but according to most local forecasts, it’s about to get a whole lot worse.
Stormy weather is set to hit the Maltese islands quite strongly very soon, with everything from heavy rain to gale force winds all on the table.
The Malta Airport weather forecast page kicked off the day with a yellow warning on strong winds valid till at last 8pm, with southeasterly gusts of Force 6 only getting worse overnight. In fact, the wind could be going up all the way to Force 8 by tomorrow!
The strong winds aren’t the only severe weather set to land on the Maltese Islands, with colder weather and thunder forecasted for the next couple of days.
As a result of the stormy weather and very strong winds, the temperature is also set to drop by a couple of degrees, with highs this week sometimes not even making it past 20°C. As for the evenings, the lows will just about hover above 15°C.
Local forecasting pages are warning people to stay safe ahead of the incoming stormy weather.
“Stay safe,” Malta Weather urged its readers last night and earlier this morning again. “The weather is expected to take a turn for the worse across Malta and Gozo.”
“The odd waterspout or tornado also cannot be ruled out this afternoon or this evening!” the page went on.
Quoting a moderately high 80% confidence in its forecast, the weather page echoed the airport’s concerns, sharing a satellite image showing the incoming storm just miles away from Malta’s shores.
