Watch: Venice Comes To Gżira – Rain Causes Major Flooding With Water Seeping Into Bar
During yesterday’s heavy rainfall numerous roads were flooded – and Gżira was hit particularly badly.
With temperatures dropping to 11⁰c, the islands saw lots of heavy rain, and hailstorms. And evidently, whenever Malta gets a few days of rain, our roads turn into rivers.
Viral footage shows the extreme knee-high floods that hit Gżira’s seaside main road leading to Ta’Xbiex, with one comment stating “Venice comes to Malta.’’

The main road wasn’t the only victim – a bar in Gżira experienced serious flooding leading to a power outage and consequently a slowing down of business.
However, the mood inside the bar was not a dreary one.
Everyone sheltered inside ended up singing and cheering each other up.
“There’s no electricity and feet of water keep rushing in…It’s quite funny actually, but please stay safe out there!’’ Zoe Gatt told Lovin Malta from inside the establishment.

With weather still rainy today, we hope Gżira recovers, and the bar’s owners manage to fix any damage.
