Watch: Last Eight Years Were Warmest Ever Recorded Globally, With 2022 Coming In Fifth
As 2022 has officially come to a close, new data has revealed that the year was the fifth hottest ever recorded globally.
And on top of that, the warmest temperatures ever recorded on a global level were all seen in the last eight years.
Scottish meteorologist Scott Duncan recently shared a graphic showing the evolution of global warming throughout the years, from 1800 to 2022, with the data acquired from Copernicus EU.
“The last eight years have been the eight warmest on record. 2022 came in at number five,” Duncan said on social media.
The graphic shows an image of the globe consistently getting redder and redder as the years go by, only continuing to get worse from the 1980s, and getting progressively worse from 2000.
He also described 2022 as “the hottest year in recorded history for hundreds of millions of Europeans”.
On a local level, temperatures in December on the Maltese islands reached a “record-breaking level”, with the highest maximum temperature recorded at 22 degrees Celsius.
