Watch: Severe Storms Cause Flooding Across Malta And Gozo

Videos of the effects from yesterday’s storm are circulating on social media showing scenes of flooding in Malta and Gozo’s streets.
Severe storms swept across Malta and Gozo overnight, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds that caused localised flooding and disrupted daily life.
Weather data from Malta International Airport indicated significant variation in rainfall across the islands, with Gozo experiencing the heaviest impact. Xewkija recorded the highest 24-hour total at 58.2mm, followed by 32.8mm in Xagħra and 31.0mm in San Lawrenz.
On Malta, the most substantial rainfall was recorded in Valletta (17.4mm) and Msida (13.6mm), while lighter amounts fell in Luqa (6.0mm), Mosta (7.8mm), Dingli (2.8mm), and Bengħajsa (2.8mm). Across all monitoring stations, the average rainfall stood at 9.3mm.
The intense downpours led to waterlogged streets and overflowing drains, particularly in low-lying areas. Emergency services responded to multiple assistance calls, though no major injuries were reported.
Authorities have advised residents to exercise caution in flood-prone locations, with forecasts indicating that unsettled weather is likely to continue in the coming days.
