Watch: Startling Thick Fog Descends Onto Maltese Islands, Causing Delays Of Several Flights
An extremely thick fog engulfed Malta throughout the early morning hours, providing eerie scenes reminiscent of horror movies and forcing the delay of several flights.
Due to a drastic decrease in visibility, several main roads were packed with traffic, and Transport Malta Minister Aaron Farrugia urged drivers to drive safely.

A Met Office spokesperson told MaltaToday that the thick fog was a result of high levels of humidity, due to recent thunderstorms, combined with a lack of wind and clouds.
This meant the due point, the temperature to which air must be cooled to become saturated with water vapour, was reached and fog formed.
The fog also affected several flights which were scheduled to depart from Malta’s International Airport this morning. According to the airport’s website, at least eight flights had to be delayed.
Fortunately, the fog has now lifted, and flights are continuing as expected.

However, more rainfall is expected in the coming week, particularly on Tuesday and Thursday.
