Windy Weekend: Yellow Warning Issued As Force 8 Winds Expected To Hit Malta

Rain might be off the menu for Malta’s weather forecast today, but that’s not going to make this Friday any less gloomy.

Today is set to be an overcast day seeing very strong winds hitting the islands as predictions of even Force 8 are being forecast.

In fact, the Malta International Airport – while keeping its forecast down to a (still very strong) Force 6 – has already issued a yellow weather warning on the “strong to very strong” winds which will hit Malta today, applying the warning until at least 9pm tonight.

Elsewhere around the island, other forecasters have mentioned even stronger gusts and very high waves.

With powerful southwesterly winds bringing gritty weather straight from the sandy shores of the Maghreb and the Sahara desert, the wind is expected to switch to northwesterly gusts by tomorrow, making sure to eventually cover the islands with a whole lot of dust.

But while the highest temperature can easily hit 22°C, expect the winds to go from Force 5 and 6 to potentially even higher, with a couple of forecasters such as popular Facebook page Aġġornament tat-Temp even mentioning Force 8.
